Sticky hands, greasy fingerprints, sweaty palms… Hey Hollywood! Be kind to your wine!

Dailyish Confessional: A girl’s just gotta vent. And the reason for this rant seems to find it’s way onto every Netflix show, every social media feed and every event I attend. I just can’t stay silent anymore! Seriously, it’s that bad. Ok, maybe I’m just OCD (please do not let my husband know I even suggested I might be!), or maybe I’m such a huge wine nerd I cannot help but try to protect the lovely nectar in every wine glass I see from the worst culprit to enjoyment – the human hand! The sweaty palm! The greasy fingerprints! We all have them, but we should never never never never use them to hold the bowl of our wineglass!

Whew, it’s out in the universe and I already feel much better! Why is this so exceedingly tortuous for me? Bottom line, 98.6°… that’s it, a simple number. But an important one. It’s no secret the body’s temperature averages this simple number. Unless we’re running a fever, this number typically defines each and every one of us plus or minus a degree here or there. Wine, however, should be kept at much lower temperatures from the low 40s to the low 60s (historical ”room temperature” is not our standard indoor temperature of 72°, but cooler 58-62° as in wine cellars or caves).

Any lengthy exposure to the palm of a human hand will transfer heat to wine in a glass held by the bowl. BINGO! My pet peeve! My nemesis! My torture! Yes, I’m being dramatic for a reason! Wine glasses have a stem for the sole purpose of allowing one to hold their wine while keeping a safe distance from the wine! Genius! So all those sexy movie stars drinking wine at fancy restaurants across my Netflix feed be damned. Maybe I should extend my education platform to coaching movie stars on how to correctly hold their glass? I like it! Hollywood, here I come!
