Daily Confessional: Woo Hoo! Today is the day we get to celebrate Cab Franc – ok let’s get real we can drink it EVERYDAY, but why not raise a glass and celebrate?!
I must confess, I fell prey to the perception of many in the world of wine that Cab Franc is to be relegated to a blending grape (often in the heralded Bordeaux region). Well I stand corrected! I’m beyond impressed with what is happening in Hudson Valley to highlight the amazing versatility of the grape by itself. On a recent trip, I had the privilege of trying numerous styles from many different wineries and must say I’m a convert! I’m a fan!
Take for example Benmarl Winery (#benmarlwinery) and Fjord Vineyards (#fjordvineyards) are creating fantastically fun Pétillant (slightly sparkling) Cab Franc to pale and sexy pink Cab Franc to deep and luscious Cab Franc that can hold its own against any red I know.
