Daily Confessional: Right up front, I’m going to confess this is not my idea – I stole it (with permission of course) from Ryan Sciara, owner of Underdog Wines in Kansas City. Prior to my visit and shopping spree with Ryan last week, I was deep in the throws of my Off-Dry January experience. Previous blogs defined this attempt as a controlled minimization of my wine consumption for the month, not a month-long indulgence of only off-dry wines although I really like the idea! Unfortunately, I just cannot help myself, I LOVE WINE! So Try January seemed a much kinder, gentler and downright more fun option for me.
Try January in the purest definition means I’m going to use the rest of the month for exploration, experimentation and adventure. My shopping spree at Underdog resulted in launch pad for my efforts starting with a natural Grenache Blanc / Viogner blend which was utterly delightful! Another recent purchase will have it’s cork popped this week with its intriguing blend of more than 10 white varietals I would never have paired together. Get your funky groove on my friend! This is going to be a blast!
Have I convinced you to join me in Try January yet? You do not have to be quite as crazy as me in satiating my funky white wine exploration. If I can even get you to try a new varietal of your favorite color, a wine from a region you’ve never ventured to before or your favorite varietal from a new vineyard or winemaker, I’ll call it a success! Let’s make this the best Dry Try January ever!
