Oh, what a night, late on Wednesday back in ‘22. It was a very fun night with you, what a Wednesday, what a night! I hope you’re humming along to the tune of the Frankie Valli song. And you’re probably wondering why I’m referring to a song from 1975. Music is a big part of my life. I was introduced to the song when I was super young. Friend’s of my parents used to come visit and always brought a stack of records to me. Yes, records, the black plastic discs you put on a record player before cassettes, cd’s and iPods or streaming music were around. I personally love seeing turntables making a comeback. I really digress as this has nothing to do with virtual wine tasting. These records, along with my Sunday night habit of hiding under my covers after I was supposed to be asleep. From there, I listened to Rock Over London on my transistor radio. This opened my world to music I might never have heard. And I loved it!
So what the heck does this have to do with wine, she’s rambling off on another random tangent again…. Hear me out! Just as I was introduced by chance to new music, I’ll confess my wine obsession is getting introduced to new wines, wineries or styles. The world isn’t just picking up a bottle at the grocery store for convenience. There also exist thousands of small, family owned wineries all across America. They are doing amazing things and creating magic from vineyard to bottle. Just as I sought out sources of new music, I highly encourage you to seek out new wineries. Try them. And hopefully you will fall in love with them. Even better, join their wine club, get on their event invitation list or just buy a case when you go to their tasting room. Then tell everyone you know about your great experience and recommend they patronize them too.
So what exactly made this night so magical?
Last night, I had the privilege of introducing a fantastic group of friends in Fort Worth, TX, to my new friends from Hudson Valley, NY. Matt Spaccarelli and Casey Erdmann (they’re married!) are the winemaker and owners of Fjord Vineyards and Benmarl WInery. You may remember Fjord from my Sparkling Wine on the Wild Side post. While we had to do so via Zoom, this event and platform allowed us to link two groups of people. Quite possibly, they might otherwise never meet one another. But by sharing a glass of wine, they can learn how Matt brings magic into the bottle. Our 3 Cab Francs, all amazingly different (a Pet-Nat, a Rosé and a traditional red Cab Franc) wines are truly divine! Maybe I should have titled this Oh, What A WIne!
Whether you’re doing a virtual wine tasting at home, or going to an event, get out and explore my friends! There’s a whole world of wine, wineries and amazing people doing amazing things in the wine industry. Without us wine lovers, they couldn’t do what they do! And we’re all the better because they do!
