Dailyish Confessional: Without fail, the thought of going to a wine shop or retailer, even searching for the perfect bottle online makes my heart race and my brain hurt. I’m a wine educator, and even I struggle to sift through the thousands of options to find exactly the perfect wine. With so many options staring us in the face, it’s just not easy! Good new, my friend! There may just be the perfect answer to the immortal question!
Are you ready? Lists! What the heck? A list? That’s it? Yes, the simple list can help unravel many of the mysteries surrounding wine selection. Even better news, there is a list for just about any wine option you can imagine! For example, you can find wine lists including top white wines under $50, best Italian wines of 2021, best value Chardonnays. The perfect $10 bottle of wine. If you can imagine it, there is a list to guide you along the way.
So many perfect wine options, so little time!
My email is slammed on a daily basis with wine related emails too numerous to digest. Wines for sale. Wine regions to explore. Wine makers worth noting. I try, but I simply cannot get to all of them. The ones I never miss, however, are the magical list emails! Apparently I’m not alone! After our Sunday Funday 9 holes of golf yesterday, my friends pulled out a fabulous Chardonnay we had both seen on a recent wine suggestion list! Success! It was a gem neither of us would likely have picked it up off the shelf and plopped it into our basket had we not seen it on the magical list!
Many wine experts and organizations regularly publish lists and I highly recommend getting on their emails, subscribing to their publications or regularly following their websites. Educators, wine experts, sommeliers and specialists create the lists giving you insider recommendations from those ”in the know”. Wine Spectator, Wine Enthusiast and Food & Wine are just a few who excel in scouring the globe to find the perfect wines to fill lists covering any and all topics! Lists may just be the Holy Grail of wine searching and I’m a fan! Cheers and happy hunting!
