Hip Hip Hooray! It’s National Wine Day!
Weekly Blog: Pop the cork and fill your glass, it’s time to celebrate the best day of the year – National Wine Day! Say what? Yes, it’s true! It does exist and who am I to shun the holiday?! This is the one day of the year where my mourning for the loss of believing in Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny disappear. I’m of age and I love wine!
What does one do to appropriately celebrate National Wine Day? Throughout history, wine has consistently been the chosen fermented juice to induce everything from philosophical diatribes to conquering new and foreign lands. Jesus famously turned water into wine. Bacchus was revered as the god of wine. Many civilizations relied on wine for trade and cultural exchange. One could say wine has been present at nearly every significant event throughout time!
Oh the pressure! Should we, too, take this moment to do something historic or memorable? Or, should we simply take this moment to be thankful for the moment we are in and everything we’ve experienced leading up to this very moment. Sounds a bit sentimental, but I can think of no better beverage to have in my hand as I pause from the business of the day and just be in the moment.
On the other hand we could throw a party!
If this is the path you choose, hooray for you! I would have needed to start a bit earlier than now to actually get my party game on, but I would not be opposed to extending National Wine Day out to the entire week – it is a holiday weekend in the U.S. you know! Bottom line, I’d encourage any and all ways of celebrating what may now be my favorite national holiday!I
I’l leave you with this thought. Wine has proven for centuries it is the chosen drink for so many milestones, celebrations, historic events and much more. It has stood the test of time and is perhaps the most revered agricultural crop across the globe. It’s diversity, it’’s nuances, it’s timelessness and it’s ability to bring people together is unlike any beverage I know. Maybe I’m just being a bit sentimental today, but National Wine Day has been a great day (thanks to a few yummy glasses of Peyrassol rose at the Charles Schwab Challenge!). Now that I’m thinking about it, I need to cover a few of these delights in my next W.O.W. series!
